Background Information:

Public Chapter 701, effective April 11, 2012, requires school districts to have a policy on the relocation of students for the safety of the student and/or others. We have never had such a policy; therefore, TSBA has set forth a proposed policy to put in effect the provisions of Public Chapter 701. The new law does allow the use of reasonable or justifiable force, as defined by law, to relocate students unwilling to cooperate.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the above-noted proposed Board Policy #6.4081 – Safe Relocation of Students, on first reading.
